Practice Day! Perfect Sunrise!

Finally the opportunity to try shooting at this famed location... plenty of foreground to choose from, not to mention slippery rocks, splashing seawater, etc... got shoes wet, tripod full of sand, filters wet, lens a bit wet, but what the heck... It's worth it!

Looked kind of frosty at first..

Then this happened!

Finally Found It!

Finally after looking high and low, with a bit of luck I finally found the perfect place for practicing!

Lunar New Year Day 1: Huat Ah!

After looking long and hard for the elusive scenery that I thought was not too far away, I ended up looking for just any spot possibly with a good view of the sun..

Another Sunrise, A Step Closer to the Start of the Year of the Dragon

Woke up late today... could only catch the sunrise at a nearby location.. not exactly what I planned, but still, better than nothing

SLT Camera Discovery Channel

After 3 months of using the Sony A77 I finally found out that it's not the camera that is slow in processing images after taking.. It's me who didn't read the instruction manual.. Next
time don't turn on the Long Exposure NR... And the A77 does not have exposure problems when using with filters like GNDs...it's my metering method that was wrong.. ...

Short Trip to Malacca... Became super long trip back home...

Took a supposedly short trip with SPIN members to Malacca for food and coffee tasting as well as some scenery shots..

First it was a late late lunch at the Friends Cafe at Malacca Raya..

Then it was great coffee specially made by one of the members who was a barista at the cafe..Great taste really..

Then it was a river cruise...

And my personal favourite.. the Sunset..

Really enjoyed myself with great company, great scenery and great food ..

Lessons Learnt in Early Morning

Had a lesson on the basics of Landscape Photography today...

1) Waking up early to survey the surroundings is always the way.. never know what you might find
2) A good sunrise shot is not just about "dramatic cloud formation", having the "yolk", etc. A good foreground is equally important and in fact should be one of the first considerations in composing shots.
3) Rule of Thirds is just a guide
4) Always remember to remove the UV filter FIRST before attaching filter ring adaptor...otherwise... vignetting all the way... haiz...
5) Go low low low low low for landscapes..
6) UWA lenses work wonders... its time to get one..

Short Trip to Port Dickson, Malaysia

Took a short trip to Port Dickson with my friend and her company for their retreat. Besides trying to make something out of the event shoot, I had some time and some luck to capture these..

The Sunset on the First Day

The Sunrise on the Second Day

An hour's wait for a 5 minute scene...

After almost and hour's wait for what I hoped was a beautiful sunset, I saw nothing but dark grey clouds.. Strong wind was bringing dark clouds from somewhere behind me to the scence in front. Suddenly for just 5 mins the scence lit up briefly with red & orange and the result was this.

1st January 2012 - 1st Sunrise

The very first sunrise of 2012, taken at Punggol with SPIN members. Great way to start the day no matter how seriously tired i was from the ordeal of the fireworks shoot.

Goodbye 2011 & Happy New Year 2012! - Part 3

Happy New Year !!!!!!
2nd Attempt @ shooting fireworks display with sound advice from fellow SPIN members :)

Happy New Year 2012 Everyone !!

Goodbye 2011 & Happy New Year 2012! - Part 2

Next stop: Bukit Timah Railway Tracks (whatever is left of it anyway)

Goodbye 2011 & Happy New Year 2012 ! - Part 1

Before the long wait for the New Year FIreworks @ Marina Bay, decided to join Wilson Wong on his "Eye on the City" Project together with some SPIN members.

One of the places visited on his project was "Wan Qing Yuan" or " Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall". Read about it, heard about it, never knew where it really is until today.

Because I got stupidly lost trying to get to the memorial hall, I did not have the chance to really study or interpret what I was really looking at, what the significance was and how it became such a big part of Chinese history. Definitely worth another trip some day.
